26. Northern Strength (2 Kgs 14.1–15.7)

Unlike previous chapters which include long prophetic narratives with kings, we move to short, staccato retellings of kings that are almost indistinguishable. The point is clear: Israel and Judah are nearly indistinguishable from each other and as one is drug into destruction, so too will the other be. Jeroboam, the first king of the Northern Kingdom, introduced idolatry; Jeroboam, the last strong king of the Northern Kingdom, has not gone from it. Their end will be the same: destruction.
